Summer Games – Celebrating 50 Years

This year marks the 50-year anniversary of Special Olympics and embodying the spirit and soul of unity, social inclusion, and empowerment of individuals with special needs. The lighting of the cauldron during the Summer State Games Opening Ceremony in Terre Haute kicked-off a year-long celebration honoring 50 years of athletes achieving dreams and overcoming life obstacles and adversity through motivation, teamwork, friendships, and sports.

Although Mother Nature had other ideas and brought a mixed bag of weather for the weekend including high temperatures, rain, lightning, and thunder which canceled many of the scheduled outdoor events, it wasn’t a complete washout. Indoor events went on as planned and the Annual Saturday Night Athlete Dance allowed outdoor fun and social entertainment for participating athletes from all over the state of Indiana.

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL ATHLETES.   HERE’S TO ANOTHER 50+ YEARS AND COUNTING!!!
