The 2017 Marion County Fair brought the typical sights and sounds of any county fair; but, this year’s Marion County Fair also unveiled a special treat during the cheerleading competition — the first-ever, public performance of the Dream Team, a special-needs cheerleading squad. The team took to the mat, was officially introduced for the first time, and captured the hearts of the audience as they performed their moves with confidence and provided entertainment while the judges tabulated the final results from the cheerleading competition. A few familiar Special Olympics Indiana – Marion County Southside Storm faces were sprinkled among the smiling faces of Dream Team members as they danced and stunted through their performance.
The idea for the Dream Team which includes team members of all ability levels, originated from the Franklin Central Sparkles Cheerleading squad which is part of a national, nonprofit organization, The Sparkle Effect.
