Mike Heldman, County Coordinator for Special Olympics Indiana – Marion County South, casts a very large shadow. He is known by many people in numerous ways: husband, father, grandfather, mentor, friend, coach, and most recently — Southport High School 2017 Alumnus of the Year. Mike was honored at an awards banquet where he received the prestigious award. His passion and devotion to Special Olympics Indiana – Marion County South played a large part in the Alumni Association’s selection process. Mike has been volunteering in Special Olympics since 1978.
Southside Storm athletes just know Mike as a great guy whose compassion and caring attitude motivate them to do their best. He is a true friend who goes above and beyond to make sure every athlete is treated with respect and recognized for their accomplishments.
