Marion County Southside Storm Thanks Everyone Who Helped Make This Fun Evening Possible!!
The Special Olympics fundraiser night at the Indianapolis Indians game on July 7th was hot and muggy with the ever-present threat of rain. There wasn’t much for Indians fans to celebrate on the field; perhaps, the Indians should have performed a rain dance and called it a night. Instead, the Toledo Mud Hens got their tail feathers ruffled and served up a game that would have made the Angry Birds proud — delivering a brutal blow in the seventh inning and scoring six runs. The Indians never recovered and suffered a shut-out with a final game score of: Toledo 6 / Indianapolis 0.
Thanks to today’s technology and a little thing called Facebook, Special Olympics Indiana – Marion County South athletes had plenty to celebrate in the spectator stands. When Dana Spalding was surfing the web and checking her Facebook page, she caught wind of Coach Keith Carpenter’s birthday, which just happened to fall on the same day as the baseball game. As a result, Dana and her mom, Linda, came to the Indians game, armed with a gooey, chocolate birthday cake and cupcakes and ready to party!
All in all, the evening proved to be a great time for everyone in attendance and Special Olympics Indiana – Marion County South scored $390 in money raised from Southside Storm ticket sales. Way to go Storm!
