Special Olympics Indiana – Marion County South athletes danced the night away at the fifth annual Southside Storm Spring Banquet on April 8th. Once again, the Holy Rosary Church provided the venue and the Knights of Columbus #14449 prepared a fabulous fried chicken dinner.
Mike Heldman, Marion County Coordinator, began the evening with a recap and highlights of the past year while a PowerPoint presentation, created by Peter Boylan, played in the background. Several individuals who volunteer countless hours of dedicated service to help sustain the vitality of the Marion County Southside Storm were recognized and outstanding athlete achievements were acknowledged. Before announcing this year’s award winners, Mike said it was tough every year to pick just one athlete out of so many great athletes to be chosen as the “Athlete of The Year”.
Congratulations to all who took top honors this year!
- 2016 Female Athlete – Stacy Bader
- 2016 Male Athlete – Richard Baltzell
- 2016 Coach of The Year – Jeff Danner
- 2016 Volunteer of the Year – Chris Willison
After a hearty dinner, it was time for athletes to bust out their best moves and boogie down to the hot mix of cool tunes played by Chris and Karla Miller, owners of Millennium Entertainment, Inc., who donated their services for a second year to help make the evening another fun night to remember. The smiles on the athletes faces said it all, as the dance floor filled up from the first song and was elbow-room only until the last song.
The evening came to a close as Marion County Southside Storm’s Doug Hughes dedicated Queen’s song, “We Are The Champions“, to all fellow athletes and everyone rocked out on a high note.
Special Olympics Indiana – Marion County Southside Storm Gives a Big Heartfelt Thanks to Holy Rosary Church, the Knights of Columbus #14449, and Millennium Entertainment, Inc. !!
